Won't start

Help...I had an engine rebuilt for one of my 600s by a friend, Mike
Bever, who had rebuilt his 600 engine with great results. Mine ran
for a day, then when I tried to start it, it went POP. It cranks fine
but won't start. I checked as much as I knew how to do, then Mike
checked things. Can't find anything. Bill Colford suggested checking
the plate that the points mount on. Mike checked, and said it seemed
OK. Anybody have any ideas? Any help will be geatly appreciated.

To Joe;
Before you start pointing fingers at who did what, you have to tell
the whole story. Leaving out the fact that you just rebuilt the engine, had
it running and heard a pop and now it will not start are significant items.
If you want help from anyone in the future with your Honda 600 you have to
present the whole story, not just what you think is necessary. Yes I said
look at he points but with so much that can go wrong there are many things
to look at.
So lets start over. Tell us all what was the reason you pulled your
engine and repaired it in the first place? What did you find and what did
you do during this repair? What parts did you change out, what did you
leave in that was not checked to see if it was still a good used part?

Great news, it starts! After Mike Bever went thru it again,
switching components, he had a mechanic friend drop by. They did a
systematic check and confirmed that they had all the right elements.
After checking spark by grounding against block, they tried new
plugs. Started right up. (Plugs had been changed early in my own
attempts.-- There MUST have been another component that was faulty-
we just don't know which one...) PLUGS of all things-- who would have
thought that would be the final thing that would get it going.

To Bill Colford -Thanks for the ideas. I am very limited in my
experience and knowledge. I tried to give a rundown of events leading
up to no start. In the future I hope I don't have problems that are
so baffling. But if I do, it's great that this board is available..
Now, to get the car home so I can DRIVE it and ENJOY it.
