Front wheel bearing

Post by cotton »

On reassembly of my Honda sedan front end, I found the right front
wheel bearings loose. I went to the auto parts store. They could
get it in about 3 days for $39 a bearing! I went to the nearest
bearing distributor and gave them my bearing and they crossed it to a
SKF 6305 2RSJEM. This bearing has seals on both sides, but if you
feel it neccessary, you can take the inner seal out. I left them
both in when I installed it. The best part is these bearings were
$12.68 each and they had them sitting on the shelf. I thought some
of you might want that part number.
Now if I can get the goofy parts guy to order the correct fuel filter!

6305 is the bearing size, 2RS means sealed 2 sides with rubber seals,
JEM means?
Honda still has the bearings for like $20ea, If you get the
aftermarket bearings, pop off 1 seal and count the balls. More balls
the stronger the bearing, I think the Honda ones have 9. Beware of
the Chinese made bearings, the metal is poor. If you are running 5"
wide mags, more stress is exerted on the bearings, so better get the
good bearings.

These bearings were SKF. Cost was $12.50ish each. Oreilly auto
parts quoted me a price of $39.00 each! I have already installed the
bearings so I cannot count the balls. I left the seals on as I see
no reason to remove them though the originals were only sealed on the
outer sides. I think the bearing will last as long, if not longer
leaving the seals be. Time will tell. These SKF bearings were
actually manufactured in.....Argentina.
