I put another recording of my Coupe's noisy engine on my website. I recorded the Coupe going from a standing start to 4th gear, ending in a 3500 rpm cruise. The sound is here: www.honda600coupe.com/accelerate_to_4th.wav Miles has heard it, and made the comments below. He suggested I reprint his thoughts here.
OK, doctors, any second opinions before I operate?
Thanks,
Steve
Fw: 600 noise
Re: Fw: 600 noise
-Steven,
That sound you hear must be a small rod end bearing, and or
excessive piston slap. If your valve seat was being bashed in, then
the engine would be running rough, and backfiring, and your valve
adjustment would be over tight, or have no clearance at all. Sounds
like an engine overhaul is in need. I would not run it any longer
until you can repair it so that there is no more damage to be had.
Good luck.
Nick
