rebuilding honda an600s/newbie questions

Post by tloch220 »

Hi everyone,
I recently joined this group after I picked up two 1972 Honda AN600s that I
plan to rebuild. I have found some good information in the message archives
and I have seen the websites of Miles Chappell and Mike OConnor, but I still
have some questions about parts and repairs for these cars:
First, does it make sense to get the bucket seats re-upolstered, or are
there any affordable replacements?
Are replacement brake lines available for all four corners of the sedan?
Is weatherstripping available, or is there a cheap equivalent replacement
gasket that people use?
Are new plug wires/ignition coil available?
Also, I have no key for either car. What is the easiest way to unlock the
steering and replace the lock cylinder?
Sorry for the large number of questions, and thanks in advance to anyone
providing answers.

Hello, and congratulations.
I once had troubles in my 600 sedan that caused me to replace the coil-&wires with a motorcycle ignition coil--don't remember which-- but I was delighted with the HOT spark I got. The only problem was that I had to replace spark plugs much more often, but I didn't mind that.
About the seats, I liked the fronts fine but took out the back seat and put in a piece of carpet instead and in some of my cars I had taken out the front passenger seat as well based on the theory that the less weight, the better the gas mileage.(Out went the spare, jack and spare carrier! If you don't have a flat, you don't need them and its all extra weight! I should go on a diet as well.) BTW-I am looking for #1-a job, and #2-a project 600.
