Greetings group,
Now that I have my coupe running, I am getting bad exhaust fumes coming in
the hatch(?). The original black rubber gasket looks ok but has flattened out
over the years. Would adding some foam weatherstripping to the hatch itself
solve the problem? Is there a good replacement gasket? and finally, adjusting
the latch?
Thanks, Mike
Coupe hatch gasket
Re: Coupe hatch gasket
Write Bill Colford and ask to buy one from him. He had them custom made
some time back. They are better than the originals because they are not
foam, but "real" rubber. I bought it for my Coupe and am quite happy with
it. However I did need to tweak the position of the hatch strike to get the
hatch to close, as the new gasket is thicker than the beat-up old one.
Get Bill Colford's website and email here: www.honda600coupe.com/links.html
See a picture of my hatch with the new gasket on it:

Good luck,

Hay Steven;
You promised pictures of your car when it was finished, are there any yet?

Finished? Er, uh, um.... between the too-tight garage, the below-zero wind
chill and the blizzard on the horizon here in New Jersey, I am looking
forward to the next time I can just drive it! I HAVE been considering
"finishing" one of these 1/32 scale z600 models I have here; does that
count?

Re: Coupe hatch gasket
Having said all that about replacing your gasket, I wonder if the old one is
really the issue. Could there be a leak in your exhaust somewhere? Do you
smell the exhaust while going down the road? I would look at the entire
length, starting under the hood with the connections between the engine,
exhaust manifold, heat exchanger and exhaust pipe. Be super-careful as you
examine all this with a running car!

Hi Steve;
It all counts, and I hope you get back on the road soon.
