RED LITE ON DASH

THERE ARE TWO SMALL LITES ON THE DASH, A RED AND A BLUE . THE BLUE IS
FOR HIGH BEAMS , WHAT IS THE RED ONE FOR ?

That is the turbo indicator, when the blower for the heater is
switched over to turbo mode the light comes on. Most likely its the
emergency brake indicator light tellign you that its still engaged.

Oddly, my red light only comes on when I have my foot on the brake for a few seconds. So I'm always idling when it comes on. Is this the turbo indicator you speak of?
Also, I don't see a blue light on my dash.
Was this only offered in late 71 and 72 models? I'm pretty certain I don't have high beams either.

I believe the red light is to indicate an excess differential
pressure between the braking systems. It has a "push-to-test"
feature so the operator can verify the bulb is OK. My experience is
that this light should never come on.

That's not good, especially considering mine is almost always on when I brake for longer than a second.
Can anyone else verify the function of this light?

Brake emergency warning light
The brake warning light is located on the instrument panel directly
to the right of the spedometer.
The purpose of this light is to indicate a malfunction in the
service brake system. In the event of a broken brake line or major
brake fluid loss the light will glow. Sholud this happen vehicle
should not be driven until the cause has been determined and
corrected. <- taken from the owners manual.
If your brakes are working , i would check the pressure switch on
the master cylinder.

I know the previous owner purchased a rebuilt master cylinder from O'Connor's shop before selling it to me, and the brakes work fine... I'll see if I can troubleshoot what is going on.

I believe The red light on the dash is the fluid level indicator. when you push on the brake pedal the fluid is displaced to the cylinders so the fluid drops a bit. I think it is a DOT safety indicator as it looks kinda aftermarket.

Enough;
The red lighted button on the dash is a test to see if the brake failure light works. If it stays on there is no pressure in a part of the system. Or the sender on the side of the Master Cylinder is bad. If you have good brakes then it may be the sender. It's all right there in the first section of the owners manual page 23 for the Sedan.

Just FYI, I checked the master cylinder and it was really low on fluid. This would explain the light. I filled it up to the MAX line and it didn't come on, for the most part. It did come one twice while braking, which leads me tobelieve that I might have a leak in my braking system somewhere.
But hey, at least now I know the red light is a BAD thing :P
