Rebuilt Engine

The last engine I rebuilt cost the lady $3500.00 and included the
very last crankshaft assy Honda had in stock. The crank alone
retailed at $1600.00. Since all engine parts are now discontinued
parts must be sourced from all over the world. I have been rebuilding
engines since 1979 and had to quit because of the parts problem.
The parts you have hanging on your engine, unless you specified them
to be rebuilt won't be. This would include dismantle heater
exchanger - which includes removing broken bolts - because they do
twist off, surfacing the flanges, sandblasting and painting etc at
how much extra per hour?
The torn boot you reference in your steering rack is Not the Bushing.
Bushings are internal and cannot be seen from the outside. I have
installed a couple racks that Tim built and they were top notch. (I
could do them myself, but they are all icky).
One of the most important parts of your rebuild is that he cleaned
all the cases, they must have been caked up before. Years of leaky
engine syndrome = thick sludge on the cases.
I rebuilt an engine for Jessica L. up in Washington using mostly used
parts, New parts included seals, gaskets, cam chain, piston rings,
and I really don't recall what else, but it runs fine.
I am at a stand still on one I am building for Michael B. in Redondo
Beach. The machine shop seems to removed an extra .0005" from the
connecting rod where the wrist pin goes and I am afraid it might
knock. What to do what to do? That engine has been 3 years in the
making.
So back you your engine, if you don't like the rusty parts, restore
them. If you don't like the bolts, get them replated. If you didn't
specify "Please restore my engine to look like new out of the crate"
then you can't complain about it.

Hey miles I have one good rod assembly still on the crank. It was removed by Dunbar Honda from an an600 with no miles .It was just one defective rod but the other is fine let me know .
