Write Mike O'Connor at tmoc1990@...
.  He has (had?) NOS coupe mufflers in the box!  I got mine from him some time back.

Hi Steve,
I read your story about changing the muffler and it sounded like the first time I tried to replace the tailpipe.  The easiest way to remove exhaust system components which do not separate easily is to use an oxy-acetylene torch ( I wish I had a torch the first time I worked on the exhaust system).  Heat the joint until it is cherry red and then the pieces separate very easily.  I have seen this approach used at the muffler shops.

Ah if only I had a torch.  I suppose a cheap propane torch might have done it.  Anyway I managed to get it together without demolishing anything with my BFH.  Since then I have had to resort to having my whole exhaust system behind the heat exchanger fabricated, due to everything EXCEPT the muffler slowly disintegrating.  I didn't include a resonator ahead of the muffler, sounds good anyway.  Pictures to come.

Hi Steve,
I tried a propane torch and it did not generate enough heat quick enough.  The oxy-acetylene heats it
quickly to a cherry red, starting to get orange, and then it comes apart easily.  I have noticed Dennis offering
a complete exhaust system on this post.....but maybe you didn't realize you were going to be needing a complete replacement when you started fixing it up.

Here's the one I used: Imco Brand, Part # CM-43. It is 6" diameter and is 12" long and has 1 1/2" inlet & outlet like the original. I had to make some brackets for it and the back pressure should be comparable. Honda 600s thrive on back pressure.
