Help with cv axles and boots??
Hell I have a couple of questions? one in order to replace the boots do i have to take the inner joint apart and slide both off that way it seem to be the way just wanna make sure, and which boot clamps are best? im thinking the universal ones that you bend over the tab , I have some now and they have a notch and a little stub that sticks up and catches the slots in the band but I think you need special pliers for these , any help would be great thanks again guys and girls ......... Hi Dean,
What you describe (starting from the inner cv joint) is how I have disassembled the CV joints to replace the boots. I was using the bands which Honda used to sell (the original equipment) but the universal bands will also work. The OEM bands from Honda did require a special tool which I did not have. I used a screwdriver (or putty knife) and some channel lock pliers to tighten the bands. It worked but it was time consuming. I have seen cars which had a hose clamp used for the band. That isn't the best choice since there may not be enough clearance for the screw when the car is run on a bumpy road.
