While the $18,000 price tag may seem high,  the seller is offering quite a bit. The posting states;
" Let the Honda 600 Shop prepare this very rare micro car for you, rebuilt engine, new rear shocks, rebuilt steering rack, all new weatherstripping, powder coated wheels, new chrome, carpet, seats, headliner, door panels, complete brake system. The AZ600 Coupe was one of the first two cars every imported into the USA by Honda Japan. Powdered by a two cylinder 600 cc SOHC, four speed, fully synchro transmissions, power brakes, front disc, rear drum. Picture is before paint, can paint it any color you want. A true collector item, the yellow car is the one for sale, the orange car is a example of the finished product. "
If you took your car to the various specialists and had the engine rebuilt,  new brake system,  new chrome, new upholstery, body work,  new paint,  and the other things he lists ..... the costs could approach the asking price of this car.  Look at Lyle in Florida who is restoring his coupe ....... I think he has already spent $18,000 in billable machine shop time working on his car and making parts for it.
Restoring older cars does not come cheap when you consider the time spent on them.

Dale is right, restoring any car like I am doing is not cheap. A "Frame off" is very time consuming and costly. But the car is at my shop and I use it as a fill in job when I am slow, a nice break from machining. I also enjoy bringing a car back to like new condition.
The problem with restoring a Honda 600 is it's not worth as much as you put into it. Just because it's small doesn't make it cheaper to rebuild.
For me it's not about making money, I figure my time working on my cars as time not sitting on the couch watching TV, getting fat.
I decided to keep my Orange Coupe as close to stock as posible.
Restored so far:
*Engine and transaxle unit.
*Rear axle.
*Front suspension.
*Front/rear brakes, booster & parking brake.
*Rack and pinion
*Window regulators
*Wiper system.
*Blower unit.
*Body stripped to bare metal....
$18K is high, but if Mike does a high quality restoration it could cost that much in labor, parts and a little profit. Can he sell it for that much.......

When I posted this thread, I was not doing so for the sake of telling everyone the guy is crazy to ask 18k. I was quite pleased to see the high price on it. If you do a search on craigs list (the entire craigs list, not city by city, you will come up with some 20 Honda 600's. There are a few at 1500, there are more at 3000 a few more in the 7500 range and then the high dollar ones.

Frankly, I am pleased to see the little cars go up in value. The downside is that parts are getting more expensive and harder to find.
I have had around 2 dozen 600's since the late 70's and initially was buying them not running for 100-200 per car, fixing them and reselling for 1200 to 1500. Well, those days are gone, but the cars are still just as much fun to have as they ever were.
Having this board (and the other one) makes for a nice group of guys to deal with. I hope that my current crop of sedans end up back on the road with minimum issues, but at least I can come here if I run into something I am not sure of.
Anyway, I think it's great that there is an $18,000 Honda for sale.

If the good unrestored car cost him $2,000.
His shop rate is about$50/hr and it takes 200hrs that's $10,000.
Then rare mint parts for $2,000.
If it was a show car restoration it could easily add up fast.
If he was restoring a vintage Corvette he could easily get his money.
A Honda 600?
I do think the Honda 600's will be a good investment, because they are so unusual and rare.
I plan on keeping and driving my Coupe.

2. Raises the value of all our cars, and
3. Makes a few bucks.
