Warning Discharge Relay
Does anyone know the gap setting for the warning discharge relay (next to voltage regulator)? I don't find any specs in the manual, but I might have missed it.

Open on up and watch it operate. Both charge control and idiot light are either open or closed.If they do that they are working. I don't think the can be tuned/adjusted as you could with some 40's era American cars.

Re: Warning Discharge Relay
For the warning relay,
yoke gap .2mm (.008")
core gap .5 to .6mm (.020"-.024")
point gap .4 to .5mm (.016" - .020")
They should be adjusted in this order as well. page 17-26 has these specs as well as specs for the regulator relay.
The regulator relay modulates the voltage to the field coil. It either gives the field coil full voltage or lets it run through a resistor which reduces the field coil strength and therefor the alternator output. I believe it is basically a pulse width modulator that acts too quickly to observe unless you somehow push the system voltage above its rating or pull it down below, forcing the points to be in one position or the other.

Bob;
Many of the gremlins in the electrical system are brought on by poor grounds. Pulling it all apart and cleaning (wire brushing to a shine) metal where the ground wires are attached is the only cure. Then cover them with a sealant (I like using an acid brush) to coat the bolt/screw/nut holding the wire or clip. Honda did it from the factory, then we get in there and pull everything apart, clean off the sealer they put on them and now we are having problems. Same goes with the light bulbs, clean, use a dielectric grease to seal it. No air and moisture to create corrosion.

Re: Warning Discharge Relay
Ok, so I looked in the big blue book but did not find specs for warning relay. What page is it on? Both relays are clicking on and off but not very fast, maybe 4 times per second. Going to take some video and post. Also, will take Bill up on his suggestion and take regulator to a shop in Sacramento that specializes in charging systems from 1970's.

Re: Warning Discharge Relay
Does pg 17-26 of the big blue book (600 sedan shop manual) answer your question?
