Not to rain on anybodies parade, but you know what they say about a brighter candle, it burns faster. Unless the engines you’re modifying have stronger chains, tougher dampers for the sprockets, bulletproof oil pump, new rockers and shafts, with a crankshaft that is perfect I would watch the RPM's.

after seeing what my engine looked like during the current rebuild once i get it back it'll be babied so it lasts forever. no top speed runs. 70 mph is all i need.

my engine was running great but had developed what i suspected was a rod knock, I decided to do a full rebuild this winter and when it was opened up i was amazed at the state of some of the internals. Granted I don't know how many miles are on the engine since its not original to the car, but i thought it would be in great shape besides the crank since it ran so nice. i could easily hit 75mph on a GPS. Upon opening it the clutch was down to the rivets, and almost everything on the primary side is trash including all chains, dampers, sprockets, setting plate oil pump,pod,piston and more. essentially it all needs replacing. The setting plate was actually shattered into pieces exposing all the dampers. After talking with Bill C. he explained that this plate shattering is usually caused by doing high RPM launches from a stop causing the dampers to be compressed and expand outward putting pressure on the plate and shattering it. (#18 on the exploded view)
after seeing what my engine looks like and the money going into a rebuild ill be keeping the RPMs lower and making sure I take care of it this time around. Im pretty sure all this damage was there before i bought the car but the fact that it drove fine and wasn't noticeable makes me want to make sure nothing i do in the future damages the fresh engine.

Bill offers good advice, Eric.
I'm reminded of the premature timing chain jumps in my original n600 back in the '70s -- one at ~40k miles, and a second one only ~10k later. Each time I did a full engine teardown, and of course replaced the chain, rollers, slippers, etcetera, in the process. After the second chain jump and subsequent rebuild, I lost my enthusiasm for the car and sold it soon thereafter. I assumed at the time that the 600 engine was deeply flawed and prone to premature timing chain jumps.
It wasn't until I bought my z600 a few years ago and then read Bill's document on Honda 600 timing chains that I realized what the problem was with my original 600 car's timing chain issue. It was me! I used to drive my original 600 car at up to 85 mph out on the interstate -- well into the "red zone." Unfortunately, the n600 didn't have a tach complete with a highly visible red zone on the dial (unlike the coupe, that has such). If it had, I suspect that I would have been a bit more prudent in my driving habits.
Needless to say, I "baby" my z600 nowadays. I seldom push it above 60 mph, and never above 70. And I'm careful with my accelerations.
Although the Honda 600 cars' engines are considered "higher performance," they still are quite small engines, and there are limits. I learned that the hard way.

After 'running' my sedan's engine into the ground in 1980ish (then rebuilidng the engine and destroying that engine again!), I am babying this car! �I have yet to go on the highway and don't plan on doing so! �4k rpms is about as high as I push it. �It is fun just runnng around town where the top speed is about 40 mph.

Everything I read, manual, tech articles, etc, say red line is low on the N600 and that the N360 (CB400 based engine) was the 9000 rpm motor.

The N360 with the 180 degree crank and dual carbs might have been good for 9,000rpm, but it was used up at 60,000km....save the crank cases, cylinders and head...replace everything else! Experience showed, the N600E was good for 60,000 miles. Anything after that was borrowed time. Any hot ridding was only recommended with a new crankshaft! So, unless you are ready to step up for a rebuild, 40 is good, as is the right lane on the highway at 60. A 600 hitting 100mph with a 360 crank might not happen.
