45 horse was reached at 8,000rpm. Doing that for prolonged periods was beyond the reasonable limits for the basic design. Yes, you could do it running it up to fourth but crushing at 8,000 was a disaster waiting to happen. The 36 horse engine topped out at 7,000. With reasonable care, most, were good for 60,000mi. Still, cruising at 7,000 was not the smartest thing you could do. 600cc cars were city transportation, not freeway flyers.
Since new crankshafts are no longer available, a light foot is recommended. It is still a fun little car. Enjoy.

I see lot's of references to the "Hawaiian cam" i can only assume that the engine's destined for the States were detuned (correct me if i am wrong) in the UK we got the full fat version ie the 45hp engines these have 36mm carb's and Siamesed exhaust's without the heat exchanger if you would like to check cam/carb part numbers see here http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-z600-coupe-1 ... partslist/ this is a european site (Dutch actually) and the part numbers cover UK and European part numbers ie 45hp engines.

You need to check the specifications against a stock camshaft. Having built many high performance engines you'll only be opening a can of worms if you don't establish a baseline for reference.
If it turns out to be a Hawaiian cam then you can just bolt it in and run with it. You won't see much return for the effort, but at least it gives a conversation starter at the gas pump with your new found friends! Our carburetors by design are very forgiving with engine performance changes. You won't need to drill jets or anything else since more air drawn through already makes the mixture richer. With a Hawaiian cam you also won't be raising the revs enough to need different springs.
