I am in the process of installing my "new" engine and have hit a snag with
the clutch cable.

Hi Steve;
MMMMMM the cable end should move through the housing catch so the rubber
boot will fit over. Try wiggling it up, down, back and forth to get it in.
It came out, it will go back in. Look at Sedan Manual Page 5-4 photo 5C-2
shows it in the proper position.
