heavy gas smell just developed

Hi,
Please help. I filled the gas tank the last week, drove around a
bit and parked my sedan in the driveway. Now a week later, there's
a heavy gas smell coming from underneath the car. Darn dangerous
fumes here. Any idea where I might have sprung a leak? and how to
fix?

Peter,
It could be the gas tank vent tube.  Get in the back seat and remove the left side cover directly below the window.  There's a vent tube that connects back to the fill pipe which can shrink and pop-off the post, and vent fumes into the interior.  Been there, fixed that.

Hi Peter;
Both suggestions given on the vent hose and dropping the tank are valid.
Without being there and knowing where you are smelling the gas it's hard to
give a (one task) fix for your car. With regards to fuel, I would check it
all. Rubber some where or the gas line itself could be allowing fumes to
leak from your system. But, if it smells like you say and it is even strong
standing by the car I would first check the filler tube, from the tank lid
to the tank. It offers the best access to the tank and you said you just
filled it. Then the Vent tube, then the line from the fuel tank to the
metal fuel line. Then check right behind the left front wheel well area
where the likelihood of catching a stone is most likely. Then to the fuel
pump filter and pump, then along the hose route to the carb and lastly the
Carb accelerator pump. Remember one of your 5 senses is going to lead you to
this problem not guesswork.
