71 sedan brake booster rebuild

This was a topic a little bit ago, and I thought I should share my
booster experience. Mine too started leak into the brake booster.
Merciless Mings rebuilt it for half of what a the only brake shop that
would do it quoted me. Works and looks better than new! On top of
that he helped me bleed the brakes no charge. He even fixed some other
unrelated items (I didnt even know they were broken.) "All part of the

I pulled my booster apart. I have cleaned everything and most parts look good. The large vacuum diaphram is distorted from pulling away from the plate, it's still soft but not in the proper shape.
Does anyone have these?

Lyle;
Go to the URL below and look at the fix for the booster diaphragm.
It worked and is still working. Like your diaphragm, it had pulled away from the plate and looked really deformed. I talked to a brake rebuilding shop over here and they said "do what ever you have to so long as it seals" I used RTV and wire ties to keep it in place. Then I used Viton O rings to finish up.
On the cylinder area of the booster, If the pistons are showing copper due to wear, then they will have to be replated. Also for the aluminum boosters, there is a (1 inch long +/-) pin at the end of the piston assembly, don't forget it. If you have misplaced it, I have the correct measurement and you can make one. This pin is needed to release the ball valve in the piston assembly. See Page 129, of the Honda Shop manual (Coupe Supplement).

Bill, thanks for the info. The sealant & tie wrap is a great idea. My diaphram is fine on the outside ring, just the inside ring is destorted and way oversize, about an inch of extra rubber. I guess the brake fluid made it swell out of shape.
I need a better used one?
