Exhaust advice

Post by kevin.gailey »

What did most people pay for a whole new exhaust with resonator and muffler? I am in Sacramento, any good shops around here, also can I re-use the stock resonator, it is rusty but not holey. With exhaust it will be a runner after sitting under a tarp in a backyard for 12 years.

Kevin,
You can reuse your old resonator.  I never thought it did very much.  Midas Muffler used to sell the tailpipe section without a resonator (they claimed it was incorporated into their muffler).   If there was a difference between the tailpipe with resonator and a tailpipe without resonator,  it was never noticeable to me because the exhaust noise is not very loud on a 600 after the muffler. As I remember, the resonator just changed the exhaust sound.
good luck,
Dale

HI Kevin and others,
Follow this web link and you will find a french method to build a new exhaust. I'm not sure it is a time saving method but the result looks correct.

*bzh stands for Bretagne, the most western region of France.
Hope your car is soon back on the road : Pierre

I paid about $325 to replace everything behind the exhaust manifold (except my NOS muffler ) last year with custom-bent pipes to match the originals.  No resonator though.  The guy that built the exhaust did offer to put in a cherry bomb type muffler in the resonator's spot, but I passed on it.  He was probably a bit pricey, but did a careful job.
I took pictures as the job was being done; if I find them I will post them.
