Oil from Valve Cover Vent

Post by bitsurfer001 »

My airbox is getting "filled" with oil from the valve cover vent.
I am not doing a lot of engine breaking...What causes this?

It sounds like your rings are worn which allows a lot of "blowby" past the rings into the crankcase.  That flow is vented into the air cleaner box. In an extreme case you might have a hole in a piston.

A little oil in the airbox is normal as it is collecting oil vapors. But an excessive amount could be a indication of  too much blow-by, possibly bad rings or piston. The other possibility is sludge build up in the baffle plate in the valve cover. You might pull valve cover off and clean out the baffle in the top of the cover and see if that helps. Then do a compression check and a leak down test to determine if it is a ring problem. I hope this helps you out a little. Brad (Classic Auto Service Dallas) From:

I had the same only at my car the headgasket was broken between the 2e cylinder and the chain side, so all the compression came into the oilchambers.

Hi Ronny, I was looking to join the yahoo group as I am a fan of Honda 600 and am looking to get one soon. I think you responded to someone else's question to my e-mail by mistake. Please allow me to join your group if you are the one that does it.
Thanks,
Dave Coyle
