rectifier wires

Post by mterrens »

Just wondering…
According to the wiring diagram, I see that the three wires running from the generator to the rectifier have a common source.  Why are there three of them?  Or is there something the diagram does not show?

Ya seems like a different kind of plug would have been a much better design for this connection.  I'm curious to hear input on what others have to say.

Can a better connector be made? I guess you need to look at what is going on inside the charging system first.
The purpose of the rectifier is to convert alternating current input into a direct current output. It may look like the three wires are hooked to a common source but they are each running from one of the three coils of armature wiring to the three diode stacks in the rectifier. The rectifier also protects the charging system from large voltage spikes. The regulator varies the voltage into the three armature wiring coils to maintain appx 13 volts while also providing more or less amperage. Ya know: volts X amps = watts... clear as mud, right?
