fuel pump/hose leak

I tried Miles' idea of melting the cracks in the cap shut with a soldering
iron. My original pump still leaked (I can't see the cracks anymore but I
assume they reopened), so I melted the smaller cracks on my other pump and
installed this cap onto my known good pump. The problem now is that the
pump is acting "sluggish". It only clicks a few times and I don't see gas
in the filter. When it leaked (and even when my lies were clogged) it
clicked rapidly and seemed to build good pressure. I managed to fire up the
engine and actually drove 1.5 miles last night, but today the carb is again
not getting gas. I cleaned some dead bugs out of the electromagnetic end,
but it still is not working. Sometimes the clicks speed up and I think it
will return to normal operation, but it does not. It sounds like a low
voltage problem, but the pump is getting almost 12v and the starter turns
the motor fast. When I unplug the upper line, the pump spews plenty of gas
onto my floor. Is this just a weak pump that bit the dust during my recent
testing?

Thanks for the link; I suppose I probably should just go with that. I have
learned that diagnosing and fixing parts is more effective and a heck of a
lot cheaper than just throwing new parts at a problem, but in this case it
seems that I have exhausted my other options.

Sorry if this has been covered before, but I have a question regarding leaded vs. unleaded gasoline in the n600.
I imagine it was build to run with leaded gasoline.  Something I've read online said the same thing, although I cannot find it now.  Do we need to add any additives with unleaded gasoline, or will it run without a hitch with every day unleaded?

I've been driving mine since 75 on unleaded gas with no problems. I don't think it is anything to worry about.

Not to worry, all Honda 600's have hardened valve seats which is the problem with unladed fuel.  These vehicles were made to run on really cheap stuff.  What you have to worry about is Gasohol.  For same reason the seals don't stand up to that stuff  on outer old cars is why these have the problem as well.  I am looking into a set of O rings and an accelerator pump made of Viton.  It's supposed to hold up.
