Here's the part number of the muffler I used last time I built one
from scratch. It's the correct length, but slightly fatter. The
original muffler is only 5" in diameter. All the USA sold cans I
found were 6".
After I bought the muffler, I bought some various bends to achieve
what was like stock. The main can is 6" round with 1 1/2" inlet and
outlet, just like original and is 12" length. The part is IMCO brand,
aluminized for longer life, part # CM-43. A cross reference to Walker
would be #17871.

Hi Kiwi Wayne,
Thanks for measuring the muffler but now I'm confused. I think
mine may be slightly different because it's definitely 13 inches
(vs. 12) long. If I use the 12" replacement muffler I'll probably
have to get new pipes too (?). I'll check into the one Miles
mentioned and see what they cost around here (best price
wins).
Thanks for all your help. I may yet save the New Zealand
economy from ruin!

I contacted the closest IMCO to me (New Jersey) and they were able to send
me the muffler. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

You can buy a stainless steel muffler from Peter Rose/Sherwood Garage in Birmingham England. It will be the last muffler you need. Coupe muffler is $400 + shipping. (I'm too cheap, I just make my own)
