Thanks Bill, will check it out.  I don't think after getting it out that it is very bad but intend to check it out farther as it was getting late by the time
I got a look at it.  What is easy for most is hard for me due to having to contend with oxygen hose and short of breath.  Work 3 or 4 minutes and recover for 10.  But I'll get it done by keeping after it.  You have been a big help and I am most appreciative.

Hey Cotton!
Right on! yank that tank out, about 6 10mm socket bolts and a an
exhaust hanger. Get some "Plumbing Inspection Plugs" from home depot
that fit the size of the gas filler hole & fuel level sensor. They
got wing nuts on em and when you shove em in the holes you tighten
them and they seal the tank. Put in about a quart of "Acetone" plug
the fuel line & breather tubes. Swish it around let the presure out
every now and then, should melt all the glue in there. let it sit
over night, do it a few times, it will be clean. If it is rusted
that's more involved. You will want to change out the fuel filter
after you put it back and run it. Auto zone / napa has em, The
filter is under the heater motor, change out the rubber gas line
sections under the car, and conecting to filter and pump. And watch
out for spyders they seem to like to live up the tank area. Spray
Carb cleaner with the little tube up in the area between tank and
body, spare tire area, that gets em going if they are there.
WAY TO GO, THAT IS MIGHTY OF YOU TO SEE THIS THROUGH!

On the coupe,  the stock fuel filter and the fuel pump are located under the rear seat.
You have to unscrew the plate which covers the tub holding the pump and filter.
On the sedan,  the fuel filter and fuel pump are under the heater motor near the driver side headlight (as mentioned in Zay's response).
good luck,
Dale

Wrong!

Post by zayjspeed »

Hey Dale Thank You for fixing that incorrect statement! The last
600 in the shop here was a very bad tank on an "N" and I kinda was
typing on auto pilot. I was thinking more about the spider that ran
down the sleeve of my coveralls while guiding the tank down and bit
me on the arm! Than what car I was fixing in my mind
Cotton (and every one else) I am sorry for passing bad info on the
filter location.
Hooray to Dale for not letting it go unchecked!
Thanx !

I think maybe I did the smart thing and called the radiator shop about vatting the tank.
When he said $30 I knew what I was gonna do. Took it in
a little while ago.  Be a couple days b4 I pick it up.
Then I can have all that fun putting it back up.
