No change to the throttle cable, but I did have to grind down the knob a bit on the choke cable to make it fit. Just one question, I don't see any vacuum hose to the vacuum advance. How does the timing advance?

Bill, check out e-bay, there are used for about 50 bucks and New for $129 or $150 I used the stock Honda cable bracket, but modified a bit, bolts right on and used about a two inch long ( if I remember right ) extention on the engine side. I considered making a kit and offering it for sale to 600 owners but just don't have to time right now.

Yes, the is a vacuum port on the carb. On the HD it was used for th VOES switch.

I've also had carb issues. I'd like to have my Honda Z600 carb rebuilt. I've taken apart carbs before, and I've never put them back together successfully.
If I take my carb to a typical Honda Motocycle place, will they probably be able to rebuild the carb with the parts they have, or should I send it to a more specialized carb place?

It all depends on the mechanic. A typical Honda (or any dealer mechanic) tech usually is trained to replace parts not repair them, you are better off sending to someone used to doing these or goldwing carbs.

It is to far away for you but here in europe there are a few guys repairing these carbs very well. Motorcycles dealers to my opinion are also not capable of doing this, there are some screws that needs to be on the place they are!

Hi Mike;
There are several people on the group that will rebuild your carb for you. I have rebuilt carbs for people that had them rebuilt by so called rebuilders and they were little more than half a can of carb cleaner sprayed all over the outside. I would send it to Tim Mings you can contact him at mercilessmings@...
, and he will do two things most won't, 1 complete the rebuild and turn it around in a few days , 2 he will test it on a Honda 600 to make sure it works.
Two things I have found happening to a number of these carbs is the throttle shaft seals drying out and leaking, accelerator pumps being replaced with Honda carb air way diaphragms, that are not made for direct contact with fuel. I tried them before just making my own and they held for a while but were leaking after a week or so. Some used a diaphragm that didn't have a long enough shaft at it's center. They didn't work because there was nothing to push up on by the accelerator linkage. Others still had crud in the small fuel bowl inlet so they didn't leak, but there was no fuel getting to the accelerator pump. And the needle wasn't adjusted properly or the screen on the end of the needle seat was full of crud. All of which just didn't allow fuel to pass. The object is to pull everything out and clean it all. I have found dentists root canal drills to be the best when clearing crud form fuel passageways on the carb.
If you have trouble getting things back together, look at the parts manuals.

Thanks Bill. I agree that most mechanics are really just part replacers, not part rebuilders. Tim is a bit of a Honda 600 legend from what I've heard.
