The wonderful 600 sedan
What is the top speed of these vehicles?
I watched the movie TOO FAST TOO FURIOUS last night and I have an itch for speed now. Is there any upgrades or add ons for these motors.
I want too run a turbo or supercharger in mine. (keep dreaming right)
I havent even driven mine yet. I sat in it once before I took it apart but I know it needs to go faster. Thanks. James.

Re: The wonderful 600 sedan
If you are crazy then you might be able to get 80moh out of it.. i have had my n600 up to 75mph.. but really i think it would be wise to play it a bit more gental, it is not like there is a huge amount of spare parts for these cars about.

Re: The wonderful 600 sedan
Your probably right. I have been told from time to time that I 'm crazy but thats probably pushing it. I will just build my 03 civic. I will cruise and show my precious 600. James.
Top Speed
I drove a coupe across Germany & Holland in 1989. I was on the
Autobahn at 85mph and taching way over redline. The car would have
gone faster, there are actually speed laws on the autobahn which
relate to BHP vs stopping speeds, I was probably nearing a ticket had
the politzei known anything about Honda 600's.

Re: Top Speed
I have never been on the Autobahn, but the streets of San Diego seem to be
thought of as a great second with all the kids trashing their cars over
here.
But back to driving your 600 at 65+, I do it all the time. And as to top
speed, all the Honda 600's I have driven seem to go over the
distributor-point threshold at about 75 mph or at about 7K rpm. Then they
seem to lose power and drop off to around 6K rpm and start up again. The
lobes on the advancer assembly and the points can only go so far and they
mechanically will not allow more rpm. The only 600's I have seen with
greater speedometer speed were ones that had a Constant transmission
Speedometer gear in a synchro transmission. It makes the speedometer go
faster. But the 45hp versions, I understand were able to attain greater
speeds. I attached the Power Curve illustration from the Honda 600 Factory
manual. If you look at the performance curve it peaks at roughly 6500 rpm
and falls off sharply as it reaches 7000 rpm.

Re: The wonderful 600 sedan
Hi All I had a 600 when it was new. According to the Mass. State Troopers, I did 91mph on the flat between Taunton and New Bedford one night!! I did not't't believe it then and I still don't. I thing the cop was out to get someone to fill his quota. But I had a ticket to prove it!
I don't suggest any of you ever try it! Not that the cart was unsafe at that speed, but, the week link(pun intended) in the 600's motor is the tining chain, IT stretches!!!!!
Love your sweet little cars!! Don't abuse yours like i stupidly did mine, or you will pay the price of replacing timing chains and valves like i did twice.

Re: The wonderful 600 sedan
Dear James
There are a few things you can do to make 600's go
like........! But I don't rec amend doing it to your
pride and joy.
Well anyway here goes the list of things I
reluctantly can tell you to do.
#1 Get parts off a Hawaiian or Japanese mainland
version. They came with twin carbs and they had
header exhaust like a motorcycle at the expense of a
heater.
#2 they used to race 600's at the stock car track
outside of New Bedford Mass. in the late 70's The
trick me friend did was have the cam welded up and
reground to a longer duration cam. That made a world
of difference.
#3 Again, if you could by some stroke of luck find a
suppler, the Japan mainland version had an optional
4th gear ratio that means the top speed dropped and
fuel economy suffer a bit but the big jump from 3rd to
forth was corrected for those who want a snappy car.
Good luck ever finding those parts! ahem, unless
you go steal them from the Hawaiian model Rice Burner
says he has LOL!
