Meltdown!

Post by cotton »

I went back into the N600 engine that I rebuilt last summer to
install the dreaded O-ring that I forgot to stop an oil leak, and
found tiny pieces of something all over the place. It turned out to
be the idler sprocket on the cam chain tensioner. I bought it new
when rebuilding this engine and it simply melted into a puddle. What
happened? The engine case will have to be split again to get it
out. Does anyone have a new OEM chain tensioner?

No no, it didn't melt down an O-ring. It melted the plastic timing
chain tensioner! I am not sure where this O-ring goes yet that I
forgot when assembling the engine last time, but I had a HORRIBLE oil
leak! It was around the fan area as it blasted oil everywhere.
