fuel pump woes

Post by Pawzi »

Hi all.
my 71 sedan had been sitting for a few months while between the time
when the temp registration expired & the new plates came in the mail
earlier this summer.
well, I haven't been driving it much since I commute all over the
area for work & it's not the type of car i want to rack up a million
miles on.
so about a month ago I hopped in to start it up & run it around the
block & keep it feeling happy and it won't start now.
there is also a wonderful and loud ticking sound that has emerged
from the drivers side front fender area where the fuel sending unit
is...
It cranks over just fine, but it's not wanting to start.
When I bought the car about two years ago the prev owner had just
replaced the sending unit & fuel filter...
is there also a fuel pump down there in the same area or are they one
in the same (excuse my ignorance...this is the only car w/ a
carborator i own)
so should I look into installing a new fuel pump?
and where would I get a new fuel pump for a 600???
since most parts stores look at me like a deer in the high beams when
i tell them what car it is for.
is there a universal one i can get that will work?
thanks for the help!
