Hello everyone, I need some help, I recently bought a Z360, the water cooled, twin carby model, 1973. I can find plenty of info relating to my car except what I really need, an engine manual for my particular car. I believe my engine is from a honda LIFE, but I still can't find any info, hope someone can point me in the right direction. I am considering an engine swap for a newer, more powerful motor with more readily available parts in the future. Any ideas on what engine from which car would be much appreciated. No-one in South Australia has even heard of a Z360. Look forward to hearing from someone somewhere sometime soon. CHEERS!!!!!

The bottom end of the Z360 Watercooled is the same a Life, but the
head is different.
The Life has a downdraught carby and an inlet manifold. If you look at
the Z, the carbies mount (via a rubber mount) to the head, there is
no real inlet manifold.
As for an engine manual, Honda only produced (in English) a Workshop
manual that cover tuning & rebuilding. I look after one for the Honda
Car Club of Victoria, so if you need specific info, I can scan and
email a number of pages (time restricts how much I can do :-(
Engine swaps into the Watercooled Z are rare, given there is so little
room for the engine/gearbox. The neatest I've seen (was in Canberra)
where a 1200cc Civic engine (EB1) & gearbox was squeezed in, but the
inner guards were cut away and a space frame added to hold the engine
& suspension !
If your in South Australia, get in touch with the Honda Car Club of
South Australia (Contact: Mal Leo. Tel:(08)8258 5753). They have
members with Watercooled and Air cooled Z's. One of their members has
even fitted a Civic 1500cc 12 valve engine and gearbox into one (for
motorkhana's not road use).

I had a Honda 360 Life back in early 1980's. I was told by the head
Honda Tech at the dealer the engine shared many of the components of
the Honda EM5000 Generator. I got a parts book and a shop manual and
they were very similar. My car had 3 speed fully automatic trans,
right hand drive, down draft carb and was very slow. I bought it for
$900 at an auto rental company and drove it infrequently.

pump?
Also, I have seen pictures of the Honda life in race paint and in some of
the race books coming from Japan in the 80's they were racing the Honda
Life, two carb's and all.

That's answered a question that I've had for a while now.
A while ago I was searching the internet for rings & pistons for the
watercooled Z, and came across a website of a Honda Power Equipment
supplier in the southern states of the USA. On there web site was a
Honda price list, referenced by part number, and within that current
price list (May 2005) was listed the watercooled Z (&Life) pistons,
rings, head gasket, head, con rods, bearings, piston pins.
I was wondering if this was a mistake, or if they had been used in
some other piece of Honda equipment.
So, maybe the parts are really still available, just not through Honda
car dealers, but through the Power Equipment dealers.

Yes, they have a waterpump located (looking from the front of the car)
on the front-right of the engine, driven by a fan belt (crank-pulley,
water-pump pulley & alternator-pulley). The belt can be hard to see
because there is a plastic cover that covers the crank & water-pump
pulleys.
If you follow the lower radiator hose, it leads to a pipe that runs
along the block and into the back of the water pump.
