Need some advice for my fuel tank, not sure what to do :(

I had my fuel tank relined because it was rusted out, when i got the
tank back i didnt notice that the nut that the drain bolt had rusted
or fallen off when they lined it. I had the tank sitting in my garage
for awhile and finally got a chance to work on my car since i was away
for school. Ive tried alot of things but cant get the tank to seal
up. I want to be able to drain the gas if possible. Its been too
late to go back to the shop i had line the tank and have them fix it.
I think welding a bolt on the tank will ruin the lining and i will
have to get it relined again. Ive tried special gas tank sealant with
washers to cover the hole, oil drain plugs, and rubber stoppers, all
of them have failed. What im working with is about a 1/2" hole in
sheet metal. I cant think of any other ways of sealing this hole up.

you can take a 7/16" bolt and drill it threw in the center with a 9/32" drill. tap the new hole to take a 5/16" bolt.  it'll take a little work, but now take a nut that fits the bolt threads and put in the tank and line it up over the hole on the inside and thread the bolt into it. before you tighten the assembly together use some gas tank repair putty to seal where the bolt now goes through the tank. o yes don't forget to pre-measure the assembly before hand and cut the bolt to lenght so it will drain properly. this also works on differiential covers and oil pans.

I've had great luck in soldering brass shim stock to the bottom of
gas tanks. I use a Weller solder gun and rosin core solder, don't
forget to flux it for seamless joint.
I soldered many patches to my BMW 3.0CSgas tank and to my Yamaha
YSR50 gas tank. Soldering is low heat, but I can't promise the
outcome with your liner.

The soldering idea that Miles brought up would work well. As Miles mentioned, the only potential problem would be the possibility of melting the liner. If you used the suggestion below, you might use "JB Weld". It is a two part epoxy that gets rock hard and would be impervious to gas. Good stuff! Myke
