Pressurized oil leak.......

Post by Ray »

Hi all,
I got the engine all buttoned up and running again, but I am afraid
that I will have to pull the head and cam holder off again as I have an
oil leak at the drivers front corner / curve where the cam guide mates
with the head. It appears to be under pressure?
My question is, does it sound like I have a blown head gasket? Or is
there a pressurized oil passage in that area that I missed when making
the gasket, and is now pushed through the gasket?
This isn't a slow leak, I am getting a strong flow....
The engine that this head came from was running, but was leaking oil at
the lower end around the clutch. I believe that there must be a
passage that I blocked in advertantly.
I also have another head/cam holder assembly that I could use, but it
is from a sedan, Other than the gasket and the cover being different,
is there any other thing I need to look for?
Appreciate your time everyone.

Your cam parts are interchangeable between the sedan and coupe. But if you
use a sedan camshaft or driver side cam bearing/holder (left side), you lose
the use of the tachometer on the Z600.
Is your leak occuring at the driver side cam bearing (where the cam rides)
or is it between the cam housing and the cylinder head.
If it is between the cam housing and cyl head (the cam housing sits above
the cyl head), you may not have torqued the bolts in the proper sequence
and/or the proper torque. Also, your gasket (if it is not genuine Honda) may be
blocking an oil passage. Lots of oil is pumped vertically from the crankcase
into the cam housing area.
If you are losing oil from the cam bearing/holder, check the flatness of
the holder and the surface to which it mates on the cam housing.
good luck,
Dale
