I just purchased 2-n600s. one has been chopped down to go under a mci
or eagle bus.
they cut the top off and cut the door section ou and welded the tail
end back to the front making a 88' carI have put 4 new tires on the car
so i can rool it around in the garage, however it is easier just to
pick up the back end and move it. any help on this project would be
greatly appreiated. Thanks ronnie rcdinc1945@...

Re: chopped n600
These adaptions have been called bay cars, as they fit in the bus conversion rv cargo bays. I've driven two (not mine) and they are a scary ride above 40 mph. Several pictures are at:

Moving the filler is a good idea, never liked the spillage.
Miles, feel free to jump in any time.

You need to contact Ray Cave at raycave@...
Ray has built many of these out of both Coupe and Sedan. Nothing is different about the running gear, just that you have a shorter wheel base. Which can be a problem taking tight turns.

Re: chopped n600
I built one called Dinky back in 1985. I wasn't trying to shove it
into a bay cargo compartment, just make a funny looking Honda 600.
Mine was 6' long and had a 4x4 wheel base. 4' long 4' wide. I sold it
twice, once to Mike H and a few years ago to Betsy H. who is also on
this list.
It was great fun, just make sure the tires are pumped up to operating
pressure of 32psi. I once had only 19psi in my left rear tire and
almost got crushed by a Mercedes as I crossed the center line on
Quito Rd in Saratoga Ca.
Mike & I drove it many times on the freeway at 55mph, but Bruce is
correct, unstable and possibly uncontrolable at higher speeds. The
car was great because from the back it looked like a stock sedan,
until you got up to it and noticed it was shorter.
I had a giant key on the back that was motorized and operated on a
small motor, I forget exactly what now, Betsy has it on the car still
I believe. I had to make the key on a seperate shaft that came off
with a clip as people would try to wind up the car while I was
parked.

Re: chopped n600
I've built several of the "baggage bay" cars, mainly to be used as auxillary
transportation when traveling in a bus - they don't fit in all of the busses, just
the later Eagles and some of the GMC's, but not the MCI's or the Prevost's -
Bruce and Miles are right, that until you get a good feel for them, they can be a
handful to drive - 48 in. wheel base compares to a go kart and the steering is very
quick, especially over 40 - 45 mph. - I've driven them for quite awhile now and you
get used to it - I sometimes in good weather ( when Missouri has good weather )
drive 30 mi. to Kansas City and back and 60 - 65 mph is fine, but you do
want to keep both hands on the wheel - a history of riding motorcycles does
help a lot - One time I had a couple of Harleys making fun of me while on the
highway, and I got one up to appx. 75 - 80 mph, but decided not to do that
again - For the record, I've never modified a real nice "600", but if I find one that
has the interior ruined, windows broken out, vandalized, rolled over, or being
used for a dog house, I can feel good about putting a Honda back on the road
in some form or another as I have a good supply of used engines, etc. to use.
My first "baggage bay" cars were 7 1/2 ft. overall in length to go in the bay
of a bus that was 8 ft. wide, and the wheel base on the Honda was 48 in. - I
now have a bus that is 8 1/2 ft. wide and my 600 is 8 ft. long with a 54 in.
wheel base, which gives more leg room and a seat with full padding for comfort.
Doing this on a Honda is all sheet metal work and body work, as the front wheel
drive does not care how long or short the body is.
