Ok guys,
All of you who DO NOT want to "spoil" you pristine N or Z with a
modification, skip this thread. I don't want to hear your belly
aching about this, you were warned..... So for the rest of us:
I have been in touch with a person who has the capabilities of making
us an electronic ignition modules (hall's effect, dirt and oil don't
bother this system as much as an optical system) for our Z's and N's
He is currently producing them for a CB/CL 450t,500t,350,175,160's.
I have found a combo that will work on my Z but not perfectly. The
Problem is that the cam spins backwards on our 600's than on a
motorcycle. - I think I am right on this, I believe that the points
are on the other side as a motorcycle.
If I am correct and the spin is backwards, the unit I have found can
run well in either idle or run, but not both. The advance retard
pickups would be in the wrong place.... In the case that I am wrong,
The unit will work just fine throughout the RPM's, but would still
require some modification to the circut board. I that case we can
just use one of the standard kits at the normal price. Please tell me
I am wrong on the spin!
Anyway, He said that if we (as a group) would order 50 units, He
could have them made to fit our point's box and it would be a custom
set. The kit's now run in the $350 range for the control box and
every thing. The unit is full adjustable with an electronic advance
and retard. and even has a hook up for an electronic tach if so
interested. He said the break point at that price is 50 units.
It would replace all thoose stuck mechanical advancers and sticky
plates that everyone has problems with eventually.
There was alot of talk about Electrinic ignition a few weeks back and
I turned up the fire and have worked something out, lets see if we
can get the neccesary amount to pony up the dough. Who's with me?
Anyway, Do you think that we could come up with 50 persons at $350
each?
This buisness has been reworking various aspects of the CB's since
the early seventies.
Any way, this is the path that I am leaning towards, what do you
think? Seriously.
He wants 1/2 down ($175.00 ea.)and then he will commit to an order.
The unit would fit in our current points box and would look original,
with the exception of the very small control box, this could be
mounted to the firewall inside or out, or under the dash.
With the promise of set it and forget it, it might just be worth it.
I am ready to do this. It has the added bounus of giving the tach to
the N (or is it the "iN")crowd w/o having to source the Z housing as
well.
I am not sure, but isn't the same points housing used on the N/Z 360?
If so the international members are welcome, but will have to pay
more for the shipping.
I am not in this to make a nickel, unlike some. I just love my Z and
am tired of searching for a good set of points. Those who are
interested can ask the guy himself, I just don't want 500 tire
kickers to drive this guy crazy with useless questions if they realy
are not going to do anything. Then he might not help the rest of us
who want to use his products, which he designed and manufactures.
I will send the info to those who show a genuine interest and they
can see his cataloge of CB/CL stuff.

compiling a list, and send the info to you.

Sounds cool, but for a little more than $350, you can fuel inject the
thing with Megasquirt and it'll run way better than it would ever hope
to on carbies.

I've posted my photos on how we did it (an electronic ignition) with a
Crane part and MSD box. IMHO - if you aren't super into fabrication
and wiring, this system being described sounds like a good deal at
$350 for a turnkey solution.
Point bounce really limits how high the Honda can rev, so you really
need a system like this if you are looking to improve performance with
other add-ons.
(Be forewarned though - these old motors can only take so much abuse
or be pushed only so hard!)
