Honda N600 trivial question
On the quest to get my car that's sat for almost 14yrs running, I have
a quick question.
What size (gauge) wire should I run from the battery to the starter?
It's basically a motorcycle right? On motorcycles that wire is like
10-12 gauge, is that enough for this car?
Thanks!

Re: Honda N600 trivial question
No regular starter wire .There is a good bit of load on the starter

OOOhhhh the M word.....I was repremended for that nasty word!! I looked at my Battery Cables and they are more like a light car cable, I dont have the foggiest idea of gage? these are originals on my car, I was at Walmart looking at the no lead cables, which are the same size as mine

Re: Honda N600 trivial question
Yes, a regular one will do from places like Autozone, Pep Boys, etc.
I think mine measured 32"and you can get them in black or red.

Re: Honda N600 trivial question
Darn. I just saw in the service manual that the starter is rated at a "Constrained Current" of 460 amps or less.
I guess there goes my idea of using a motorcycle battery...
Thanks for the quick response!
Another quick question, is there an "off the shelf" able to be bought at a parts store battery available for these cars?
If not, anyone use a dry or gel cell and mounted it where the spare tire went on the smaller engined cars?
Anyone have the specs on the battery it needs (Cold cranking amps, capacity, etc)?
Thanks again,
Mario

Re: Honda N600 trivial question
The battery in my Coupe is an Autozone Duralast 51-D, 625 cc amps at 32 degrees. Works fine.

Re: Honda N600 trivial question
I use a type 51 battery.
Your local auto parts dealer will sell battery cables which will work for you. Pick a
red sheathed cable which has the extra pigtail so you can connect to your 45 amp
primary fuse.
good luck,
Dale

Re: Honda N600 trivial question
Your Honda 600 starter is the same size as a Datsun 510 or 240z
starter. You need regular size battery cables you would buy at an auto
parts store.
Don't forget the ground cable goes from the battery to the frame (body)
where the coil connects on then to the engine. Failure to ground the
engine to the body will cause some ground wires to melt, I have also
seen the coating melt off the throttle cable because the starter was
seeking ground.

Re: Honda N600 trivial question
Is it the same as a 240z or 510 starter? Or just physically similar? I ask because Zs are my passion (currently own 78 280z race car and a 76 turbo'd street car) and if that's the case I can put a gear reduction model instead which is lighter and uses less amps while cranking.
Can you explain the coil part in more detail? My Honda N600 was modified by the PO and has a distributor welded to the cam gear and has a regular car coil in it. This coil only need +12v ignition and then the "-" side goes to the condenser.
Also, I always run a grounding strap to the engine of at least 2 gauge on all my cars.
I've started building an engine wiring harness for this car because the wiring is so chewed up and molested, I'm hopefully finishing it up tomorrow weather permitting. I've been dying to hear the thing run!
Thanks again for the help, Mario
