I have had great luck just putting in a new diaphram. You just grind off the old penned end, drill and tap it for a 4-40 screw, cut a new diaphram out of sheet diaphram material, and screw it together using thread locker. I have not had any failures. I have been doing this for years.

I went into a carb specialist years back and he matched up something from a Harley Davidson that looked a little different but worked fine.

The diaphragm material must be resistant to the Alcohol based fuels we are forced to purchase these days.  It may be why you have been making them for years.
