Rectifier on a 73 Sedan
Does anybody have a photo showing the rectifier in place along with the wires going through for the passenger side headlight? I had to remove them to do some welding in that area and now I don't remember exactly how they were in the first place.
Thanks,
Tom
Thanks,
Tom
Re: Rectifier on a 73 Sedan
Sorry - no photo, but 3 of the wires (spade connectors) are interchangeable. They all do the same thing - use a diode to allow only the positive voltage to flow. Hopefully this will help a bit!

Thanks but what I am looking for is how and where the rectifier mounts to the body and also where the electrical wires go through the body to power the passenger headlight.

Re: Rectifier on a 73 Sedan
The 73 was not a 600 but the first year Honda introduced the Civic, which was a 4cyl. I think the 69 2 cyl was brought into the US by our servicemen coming back from overseas duty. The 70 hit the West Coast around Longbeach, CA and east coast in VA or NJ and the Dealerships were started. Then we got our first Civics from the port in Baton Rouge, LA. I think a motorcyle dealership, maybe Gonzales Motors, was the port of entry and handled the shipping to Honda Car Dealerships..I worked for one of the first Honda Car dealerships in MS and am very proud of the progress American Honda has made in the US.

Re: Rectifier on a 73 Sedan
Actually the Honda 600 sedan came in to Hawaii in 1969, it was the Euro model with 45HP. I also had a 1973 600 sedan. The VIN was AN600B-100-------. With an emphasis on the "B".
The wires from the rectifier do not go through the headlight or anywhere near it. There are 3 solid whites with male connectors that go to the 3 solid whites coming from the engine stator, along with the 3 from the engine is one white with black stripe. Make sure the rectifier is grounded and the center of the part is not touching any metal objects. The rectifier is bolted to a metal bracket with a slight kink in it which mounts on with one of the bumper bracket bolts.

Re: Rectifier on a 73 Sedan
Really now;
If we open the parts manual for the Honda N600 kids! look on page V of the October 1977 addition, and you will see that the N600 for Hawaii only is Initial chassis number 1013055 to 1018285, N600 (or the A model) is from 1019323 to 1033851, 600B is 1033852 to 1049184 and 600C 1049185 through end of production in August 1972. And, just a side note; you will have to look in the Honda 360-400-600 Sedan & Van Parts List (Honda Motor Co., LTD. issue) on page III to see that AN or American N 600 started with production number 1013055. There is also a N600G but that's another story.
As hard as I try I have found no production dates for Honda 600 Sedan or Coupe (Z) after August 1972.
Why? Because there are none. Production of the Honda 600 ended.
When did the first Honda 600 land in the continental US? As best can be figured some time in the early part of 1968 with 50 test vehicles. What did they look like? They were/are modified Honda 360's including the engine. Tim Mings has two that have heads and cylinders that are modified 360 units, even the head gasket is for a 360, just a larger bore. The test vehicle I have is documented by Honda and I have a written offer for assistance if I need it to document it more. The original engine in my car #36 is long gone. Testing does just that, it tests the hell out of them. To read the history of these cars read the parts manuals, look at the shop manuals (both) the Sedan and Coupe supplement manual. Yes, the Z Coupe manual is a supplement to the Sedan shop manual. Where the Sedan shop manual stops with several variants of the brake systems and carb's. The Z Coupe manual picks up with the new booster, seat belts and carb. So if you are restoring a Sedan built after April 1971 then you need the Z Coupe manual to find out how to work on the carb and transmission built after that production date.
Happy Thanks Giving!
That said, who can give three things they are thankful for?
For me:
1 Great family and friends .
2 Youth and strength to keep behind the wheel.
3 The freedom to believe the way I want to.

Re: Rectifier on a 73 Sedan
I some times wonder why the Honda even made it here in the states because they were so small and gas was cheap. For me it was the small and handling of the car. All my friends had BIG cars with even bigger engines but I could easily out corner them and beat them in a race a cross the intersection on a rainy night. lol. I lived in Spokane at the time and I could never leave my car by itself or some of my friends would pick it up and move it.
Three things that I am thankful for
1. The freedoms that we have. ( even though I think they are getting smaller the time)
2. Family!!
3, My Granddaughter ( Born 14 weeks early and at 1lb and 11oz. now 5 1/2 years)
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!

All my friends had BIG cars with even bigger engines but I could easily out corner them and beat them in a race a cross the intersection on a rainy night. lol. I lived in Spokane at the time and I could never leave my car by itself or some of my friends would pick it up and move it.

And, just a side note; you will have to look in the Honda 360-400-600 Sedan & Van Parts List (Honda Motor Co., LTD. issue) on page III to see that AN or American N 600 started with production number 1013055. There is also a N600G but that's another story.

Where the Sedan shop > > manual stops with several variants of the brake systems and carb's. The Z Coupe manual picks up with the new booster, seat belts and carb. So if you are restoring a Sedan built after April 1971 then you need the Z Coupe manual to find out how to work on the carb and transmission built after that production date.

Hey Bill, You should post some pictures of that test vehicle you have to share withg the group. I am curious to see what the "test vehicle" looks like and the differences it has compared to the common n600.
