2 cyl Honda.
I'm new to this Honda thing. I just bought 3 of them and am looking at a 4th.There kinda like kittens I cant resist them. All are Arizona cars and the bodys only have a little rust.Cool! I am building a motor and was curious as to what is available or if the little guys have too many weak links. It would be neat to build a fast(for lack of a better word)motor.I'm looking forward to chatting with al the 2cyl Honda lovers and think this site is pretty neat.Any feedback would be awesome. Cheers!!

Welcome to the addiction. You'll find posts pretty recent about some options for more power. But keep in mind the cranks are getting harder and harder to find.
Even at 36 hp they are pretty peppy.

Do the crankshafts become useless when they have been weathered? Just curious.

I have a few cranks. Are they that vulnerable??

Re: 2 cyl Honda.
I guess high compression pistons are out of the question. The head configuration looks pretty good thought they could produce a little more than 36 pony's The European version has 9 more horsepower wonder what the difference is. I don't notice any smog stuff on any of mine. Cheers!!

Re: 2 cyl Honda.
From my understanding you should keep them well oiled up and try to keep out dust and debris.

Re: 2 cyl Honda.
High compression pistons can be done, but it's not cheap.
European = different cam (I think no overlap), different head ("Y port") which meant different exhaust, and a different carb.

Re: 2 cyl Honda.
What do you mean by weathered? I have picked up cars which sat outside for years with the cylinder barrels removed and the connecting rods exposed which I thought were going to be damaged and they turned out to be fine. Take a look at the section of the connecting rods where the piston pins attach and check the condition. And then pull off the left and right bearing holders and inspect the roller bearings and the shafts for rusting and pitting. If these areas look good, there is a very good chance the center bearing sections (which are pressed together) are good.
You will still need to check the crank to make sure the radial and axial movement of the conn rods is ok (see the manual).
good luck,
Dale

Re: 2 cyl Honda.
When the crank is out, for rebuild or storage, I take an oil can (with the thumb pump) and force oil in the oil holes until it leaks out around the con rod.
the engine internals are already covered with oil, so leave it as is. Only clean things before reinstalling, and don't forget the assembly grease.

Re: 2 cyl Honda.
Wholly crap they would do that??I didn't think that they would make something so different seems like production would suffer.
