A short Update! "AN" some more questions!!

Post by julian.saturno »

Well after a fair amount of hours spent on the Z, I was able to remove the gas tank, and have started cleaning it getting ready to reseal it.
I got a whole kit from Napa that is supposed to clean and seal the tank. It was rusty and quite dirty, and stank because of all the sour gas! The salesman at Napa said this kit would do the job. He also suggest before using the kit to use Diesel to clean it, along with the chain.
(sound like a good plan, and a good kit to seal the tank?)
I also Changed out the oil and threw in a new filter. This proved to be difficult because the oil drain plug was circular shaped, instead of a hexagon! But we got it off. And happened to have an extra in a pile of parts the came along with the car!
Installed new point and condenser, Does the points gap need adjusting, once someone told me that points don't need adjusting until about a year after they were installed? True??
I just got some info on how to check the timing, So I will check on that as soon as we get some more good weather. Apparently my Fathers Classic and Antique cars have priority over mine! (So what dad if your car was built in 1910!! this is a 72 Honda z600!! :) just kidding)
I don't have spark! Any words of wisdom on steps to rule out problems?
Once I have the spark problem figured out I hope that it might just run! Everything else from what I have gathered seems to be in order!
But then again, I'm no mechanic!!
Soo once again, there are a couple questions above and a couple things I would love opinions on!!
Thanks Again!!

if you just put the points in and did not set the gap, that is why you don't have a spark. make sure the points are open to the specified gap when the folloer is on the lobe. (and make sure you see them close as well after you rotate the points off the lobe).
See the service manual.
