I am starting to reassemble my basket case Z600 project which I just hauled back from Florida, and I wanted to confirm whether the wheels should be painted in a gloss silver, semi gloss silver, or flat silver color, and if anyone had the exact color name and formula, I would be grateful
Also, please advise the proper black for the sub frame, rear leaf springs, rear axle, and front stabilizer bar. Should these parts be flat black, semi gloss black or gloss black?
Please respond as soon as possible as my sho intends to shoot tomorrow or Thursday.
Finally, I am learning a whole lot about the cam chain roller failures from my other Z600 project, but I am wondering if everyone recommends a prophylactic rebuild to avoid any troubles, or whether these rollers only typically fail on higher mileage engines.
Also, I understood that the cam chain roller failures were more common on earlier models and less common on later cars. Please confirm of refute this information if possible, as I do not really want to rebuild a perfectly good 29,000 mile original engine unnless absolutely necessary.

as far as the wheels go , you can go to your local paint store and ask for "argent silver" it comes in a rattle can and is for wheels it was used on all american cars back in the day im sure its very close to what japan used

Hi Chas,
29K miles is very low mileage on your engine. If it is a Z600 engine, it had the newer style engine/tranny components and should be fine. I would do a compression test (160 to 170 psi) and look at the condition of the parts under the valve cover.... looking for rust and excessive wear. Look at the end bearing of the camshaft .... do they show any scratches? You can see one side on the left side where the mechanical tach is mounted through the notch in the cam holder. Put fresh oil in the engine and run it. Listen to how it sounds ...... with 29K miles it should sound very quiet. An oil analysis will give you an indication of what is wearing in the engine. If you are thinking ..... what do you mean oil analysis? Aircraft (large and small) do it all the time to look for premature failure. Check with an aircraft engine rebuilder. I used to use Spectra out of Reno, Nevada but they are no longer available.

The subframe,front engine mounting bar are gloss black.
Sway bar is gloss black
Leaf springs semi flat or flat black. Some I have seen have white stripes and numbers painted on them in white.
