I have read 2 posts - one recommends a 10 micron inline and another recommends 100 micron
Which would be best without taxing the fuel pump?

Your car is from the early 70s...... the 50 to 100 micron fuel filter would be what the engine was developed around.
While the 10 micron filter may be better, how often do you want to change your filter?
And what are you concerned about? Are you concerned about rust getting into the engine? Rust is iron oxide. A powerful magnet on the fuel tank or the bottom of the carb's float bowl will attract iron.
Your engine is inhaling a lot more air than it does fuel vapors. You should be more concerned with the air filter than the fuel filter. Also, you carb has a fuel filter at the inlet and the fuel pump has a fuel filter at the inlet.
And your particles in the engine oil are going to be more serious than the stuff in your fuel. Are you also checking the micron rating on the air and oil filters? Also, the micron ratings on filters is just one piece of the puzzle and it isn't doing what you may be thinking without reading the fine print on the filter and knowing what SAE tests the filter is being subjected.
I think you are worrying about something which is the least of your problems.
