Hi Everyone!
I just took my sedan out for a test drive on my recent brake modernization mod: From a '72 to an '83 see how the drama unfolded:

Brake Conversion
This is great!. I have questions.
Are you still booster-less? How is the pedal feel with the new calipers (and no booster) ?
Where did you find the 175-50-13's? are there more available?

Re: Brake Conversion
You forgot to mention on the blog that the Civic uses a larger diameter wheel stud and using 13" rims with low pro tires that the new diameter is still really close to stock, maybe only 1" taller than the 10" tires. I drove a friend's car who had 13" with Pirelli P7's on a Honda 600 coupe. The problem I had was with the handling where every little bump is felt, and every big bump would pitch the car.
Plan on replacing the rear wheel bearings frequently because even though the diameter is the same the load on the wheel bearings is not, wider wheels/spacers/offset on tiny Honda 600 bearings.

Brake Conversion
HI Marty ,
Your brake upgrade gives me a great sense of kindered soul. I'm so happy to turn you on to those 175-50-13 tires. I looked for a year before I could find a new set made by Dunlop.
I have a few more questions. Typically the z600 and z600 utilize the booster on the stock front discs only, the rears are not assisted. If you remove the booster the pedal is hard to push, bias shifts to rear, and rears then lock up easy. especially on wet.
Did you do anything to compensate for this?
What are your plans to paint the wheels?
I cut the axles on my white n600 bike engine project and sleeved them to add length just like you did to match ends

Hey Mark, The tires are the ones you recommended:
http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.p ... -will-ship these were the only ones he had, but there is a shop in oakland (through ebay) that had been selling them and these currently are up for a great price:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-NEW-NANKANG-A ... f0&vxp=mtr i am still booster-less, things feel much better than before, but i think with a booster, the performance would be at it's best. At some point, I may take a look at going back to using the booster. but for now, I'm pleased with the result.

Re: Brake Conversion
I've driven 13" on my Z since 1985 with175/50 Bridgestones without problems on the roads and several circuits in Europe, a brake convertion is not needed the diameter of the tire equals the original size and if your brake system is working properly why chance it. The lowering of the Z by 2" was the best chance in handling. And rebuild the engine to hawai/G-type specs is also a plus.
