No reverse
No reverse
So I got my n600 running and all gears work perfect except for reverse. My bushings are not bad as I just took off the shifter and made new bushings so there is no play in the shifter. I can feel it go into reverse, but it doesn't move. Has anyone had a failure in just the reverse gearing, or am I just doing something wrong?
Re: No reverse
Did you use the original split pin to reattached the shifter to the shaft coming out of the engine case? If you used something else then the shift shaft may not be goint in far enough.

I used the original pin. I removed the view cover by the starter that the speedo cable and dipstick go into so I could see how the reverse gear was operating. It was moving in but not enough to engage the reverse gear. You could feel the shifter move and engage but the reverse gear wouldn't engage. I was able to knotch the reverse fork and move it in so the gear engages now. I just don't understand how it could have got to this point to begin with.
Re: No reverse
Does your back up light light? Before I made a cast urethane bushing in the "U" shaped link I could get in a position that felt like reverse but there was no back up light and it felt as if reverse or the clutch was gone. The reverse light switch is pushed on with the shaft of a correctly positioned reverse. If the reverse light is know to work and is not on than you are really not in reverse. You can also remove the reverse switch (passenger side of trans) and feel the shaft move outward.
Also a bad rear motor mount can allow the sifter to catch on the body and not shift.

Re: No reverse
I made the bushing fpr that section of the linkage as well. What did you do to correct it? If I can purchase a correct set of bushings I'm more then willing. I'll check the rod through the reverse switch because I have not assembled the whole vehicle yet

Re: No reverse
Cast urethane. It replicates the original decomposed rubber bushing. It is quite a process. the mixed resin is evacuated in a chamber to remove all air bubbles and the poured piece is cured under 70psi pressure. I tested the design using chopped fiber glass mat and JB weld. That bushing worked fine also. I also tightened the OEM. All the parts are bead blasted prior to creating the bushing so they stick to the metal. My shift has zero play now and no odd vibration from the harder material.

I have not tried adjusting and wasn't aware that there was adjustment. I'll try again next time I get to my shop. Thanks

Re: No reverse
Maybe I should take off the access plate and try to get the reverse shaft to engage all the way manually as well
