What's everyone's preferred axle removal method from knuckle. Whack of hammer, puller (can't get mine on, or ????

I have a factory Honda Tool that I use, works swell for removal but doesn't have correct nut to pull them back in. Alternately I use a hydraulic press to take them apart but knuckle must be off the car.

Thanks Miles, I am replacing bad axles, sounds like I might need to take knuckle off and have new ones pressed in.

Oreilly Auto has a big 3/2 jaw puller for rent. It works fine with the 2 jaw setup. Tighten and hit the puller bolt with a hammer. Caliper and its shield are removed as well. I pull them in with the large axle nut and a series of spacers. The spacers are thick walled pipe the same od as the inner bearing race. It is all smooth and easy except for holding the axle from turning. You need some way to hold the axle or an impact wrench. Clean and lots of grease. With this method of pulling the axle in there are no forces on the bearings only the inner races and spacer. Pressing puts the full force on the bearing assembly. I would not do this with old or new bearings.
