Oil suggestions?
Hello everyone,
What are your suggestions for motor oil for my Honda 600 Coupe's engine which has 149000 miles and the typical weeping problem.
Thanks,
Chuck (mobile)

With the mileage on your engine and the temperature being above freezing use a good quality 20W-50 oil all year.

Re: Oil suggestions?
I quit driving my AZ600 in 1975 after putting on 85,000 miles. At the time, I was using 10W40 Arco Graphite oil. It worked well and told me when 2,000 miles had passed: It was hard to downshift to first gear.
At the time, there wasn't any specially blended motorcycle oil available (possibly Spectro Gold???) so I used the same stuff in my Honda 500 motorcycle. Same warning at 2,000 miles: hard to shift to first.
I wonder if today's moto oils (petro and synth) might be a better alternative? It has modifiers that deal with heat, transmission-shifting and duration of the oil bath (greater than 2,000 miles).
Any qualified opinions out there? Tried it and liked it, or not?

Re: Oil suggestions?
I am going with Pennzoil 20W 50 SN.
I was a little worried about using a synthetic oil, fearing its lower viscosity may leak a little more than the thicker oil.
My engine doesn't seep enough oil to warrant an entire engine teardown, so I'll just keep wiping down the block after every trip.

Re: Oil suggestions?
I agree with Bruce on the 20/50 and have always used Castrol or Valvolene with some Slick 50 .
I am in Santa Cruz area where temps rarely below 50F in the daytime.
I had a customer who would bring me Redline synthetic when I did his oil changes.

I am also in a warm weather climate, Tempe, AZ, where the temp rarely dips below 40 degrees.
I ordered some Pennzoil 20W-50.
I was thinking about a straight 50 weight oil to slow down the seeping, but the only type I could find was racing oil.

Re: Oil suggestions?
Before switching to a remote filter and oil cooler system I found Torco blends were very good and normally in the 10w40 range.
http://www.torcousa.com/torco_product/t4.html .
But nothing takes the place of lost metal due to wear, not even an oil cooler.
Teflon additives, synthetic blends nothing will put metal back. Heat equals wear and 40 year old parts have wear which will result in friction and more heat with an ultimate failure of parts. Because most of the bearings in the Honda 600 engine/transmission are roller or ball bearing system wear is more focused on bearing cages and thrust washer/bearing units. Other weak links would be the cam chain and oil pump rod. Some would say pistons and rings also are a weak link, but only after pour oil flow from an out of time engine where the cam chain has stretched and the eccentric the oil pump rod rides on has warn to the point where the oil pump is giving a reduced flow of oil. The better question is not what oil, but is my engine warn beyond usable limits?
