Re; damaged pistons.

Thanks bill for the pictures and advise,I never had an oil pump rod
break on any of my motors ,What causes this and what prevention
could be taken.

No need to apologize, we all receive everyone's e-mail in this way we
receive the answers to questions we never thought of asking. Works well

You need to either have one of the mechanics stethoscope's or a long screw
driver and put it to your ear. then touch it to the area where the engine
number is. If you here a rhythmatic clicking then the eccentric for the oil
pump rod is getting smaller and that allows the piston on the other end of
the rod to hit the bottom of the pump. The eccentric catches up with the
turning of the rod, but the rod has stopped. This then is when the aluminum
rod cracks, the next few thousand revolutions finishes the job, say about a
minute or so.
