A non-member wrote me to ask about an issue he is having with his 600's starter. Could someone please reply to him directly at crx_ef8@...
, and copy the group on it as well? Thanks! Here is his email to me...
Hi, I have a 1972 honda z600. I have a question my car runs fine, it starts up fine. but for some reason out of no where I tried to start it the other day, the starter woundnt crank. the starter gear seems to get stuck in teh tranny. I took out the start to give it a test, it spins fine. but when I put it back in it will get stuck.. so i went and have the starter replaced and its still the same problem.
could it be the transmission? all the gears on the transmission are fine, its weird when i put the starter back in the tranny and crank it the starter would get stuck, jam and if i hold it for long time i will see smoke comming from the starter. oh and i did crank the engine with a a wrench and it spins fine. maybe the flywheel is loose? in the tranny. please email me back and let me know what i should do.
THANKS!

starter trouble
Tran:
This is a longshot but it happened to me once. The bonding strap from the frame to the engine block got loose (still attached, just loose) and the engine would not always start. I accidently found the loose attach bolt and tightened it and the problem went away.
good luck

Re: [2cylinderhondas] starter trouble
Hi Tran;
Two things will cause what your experiencing; 1 - the bendex gear was changed out with a Datsun 510 starter gear which was claimed to be a replacement, not.
2nd, you may have the correct gear on the bendex but the bendex needs to be rebuilt.
So if you have your starter rebuilt, the Datsun 510 bendex is still listed as a replacement.
