The owners manual says this has a 45ah battery, would this be a small
tractor (lawn and garden type) battery for these?
Is there a particular brand that fits/works best or should I just
measure the tray then go down to the local auto store and start
measuring?

The batteries I have been using are the #51 and #51R. I have been told some of the newer Honda vehicles are using this battery. It is small enough to fit the tray and has the ratings necessary to work on the 600.
Both batteries will have the negative post at the front of the car.
The #51 allows the positive post to be nearest the fender while the #51R allows the positive post to be nearest the engine. I believe the original batteries had the pos/neg posts near the fender. I have used both batteries and which one you choose may be dictated by the length of your cables.
I have purchased my batteries at Costco and Knecht's Auto Parts.

Thanks Dave,
Using a Honda battery would be good and look correct under the
hood, it just depends on what they run these days at the Dealer.
Otherwise I will go with the 51R as I dont like the terminals to be
close to any metal.
