He has a 3-D scanner and printer which allows him to make the impossible to find parts needed for his cars. While the 3-D printer is still a bit spendy for your home shop, the scanner doesn't seem so bad in price at $3000. Especially when you consider the amount of work needed to create a drawing of a part to give to a machinist. This creates the CNC code which you can take down to the shop and have them make your part. I'm not sure how many hours of CNC operation amounts to the $15,000 needed to buy the 3-D printer.
