Wheels....(again)

Wondering if anyone has found a wheel that will fit at lower cost...
I am just starting to re-do my Z, and may go with 13's and a wide body kit (handmade of course), if i dont find some aftermarket 10" rims at a better price than what i have seen....
I look at this car as a blank sheet of paper and could be many things...not convinced restoring it is the only way to go, so may do mods to make it a unique and fun car...rally or autocross style maybe, anyone else have a "custom" of sorts? Other than shortened or pickup styles? Would love to see some pics ..........

I bought some cosmic wheels on ebay a while back but by time I had the restored they were almost as much as honda600shop.com new wheels , mine are nicer since they are machined bright finish but still expensive. look for dadtoy on ebay he buys wheels from japan and resells them on ebay , expect to pay at least 400 for a set of used wheels that will need work. another option would be to have some custom made , I know kodiakracingwheels.com used to offer custom 10" wheels for midget racing so you can try them.I think someone already mentioned using classic mini wheels with adaptors ? there's options ,you just gotta want it bad enough ha ha good luck

i hate to even say it because what i do is about as backward as the Ozark mountain hill people. I  had a Z600 that was so rusted out i was going to cut it up. But i found a 97 Geo metro 4dr that had a good drive train and started cutting it down trying to get it small enough to fit under the Z. I started by cutting off the roof, door pillars(it was a 4dr) and just cut the whole back of the car off about a foot behind the rear wheels and just cut the whole top and outsides off the wells. then i cut the dash sides down and most of the inner fenders. i had just enough metal from the geo left to hold the engine and trans in place. i wanted to use the stock steering wheel and dash but keep the a/c. not sure if thats going to work yet It was interesting tho to find that with the stock steering column the bottom slides right onto the rack shaft perfectly. I cut out 14" of length just behind the drivers seat of the Geo so this thing still has the same steering ratio but is a lot shorter. not sure how it will drive yet. I have the chassis all filleted down so even the outside rockers had to come off to get the widths workable between the two cars. The tires stick out of the side a little but im still working on how i want to handle that part of it. My Geo was a 4cyl with 13" wheels but im thinking that if the 3cyl Geos have a 12" rim that may be the way to go. it may end up IF the car turns out that id get the stock rims chromed or something on that order. As it was i was moving right when i needed to be attaching the body to the frame so its all sitting under a tarp out in the snowbank right now. I do think the car will turn out but a lot of people wouldnt like what they saw about how im going about the building process. I kept the doors and hinges on the body and cut out everything that would get in the way of sitting it right on top of the Metro frame. Everything that doesnt fit is fabricated to suit. I got everything to sit onto the Metro but the front end. That is the fenders sit on it, the hood sits on it but i have to fabricate out on the front in the grill and bumper area. the area between the front of the engine and the cooling fan are about flush with where the grill would be. so i will have to come up with a way to work it thru and still be aestheticly pleasing to look at. My brother and i are restoring a custom 58 Impala convertible and found a way cool Chrome paint for it that this car could be a possible candidate for. The paint is called Mirra Chrome. Anyways, thats what i have going on. Also have a stock non running Z thats in pretty good shape.

I am running 10x7 wheels on mine.They look like Centerlines, I ordered them from Real Wheels in Iowa I think.  I paid $70 each new. It has been several years since I bought them. They can be ordered in many widths and offsets.  See my pic in the group pics under Brads Project 600.

I dont remember everything, but I know they are 7" wide rims,with a 4" backspacing, but they can be reversed so they have a 3" backspacing. I have two sets of tires. One set is Hoosiers, the other are Goodyear slicks. I will have to get the sizes off the tires tomorrow. But either set of tires I have are not actually street legal. I am planning on running the Hoosiers on the street though,unless I can find something a little more streetable.

Hi Glen;
I just had a short talk to a repair shop that put a couple of after market push pins in a radiator shroud on a 2002 Cadi I have.
The push pins were not correct and caused a rattle you would not believe.
That coupled with the wine coming from the passenger seat was not worth the repairmen's simple fix for the factory hold downs.
The point I am making is that the manufacturer came out with a nice size wheel with the correct weight ratio for the Honda 600 engine output.  And, undoubtedly spent good money to make it work.
 Larger wheels may make things look better but do little for the performance of the car.  The lighter 5 or 7 inch wide 10 inch rim using the same 145X10 tire is a real advantage over the Factory 3.5in wide rim.  Not because it looks cool, but because it is less unsprung weight giving the car better handling and more power to the road.
13 in rims will weigh more, the tires will weigh more and your vehicle will take longer to obtain speed.  Your MPG will be less and the wear on the drive train will be excessive.  If you go to the
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/anzhonda600owners/  photos and look at the Green Coupe that is supporting 13in rims which were lightened, with a 50 series tire, to maintain the height difference.  But the weight and width of the tire was still more than the engine could handle.   The owner of that car owned a Tire and Rim shop and got the wheels with tires mounted to come to just two pounds over the weight of the factory Honda 600 steel rim/tire.   Where as a set of Cosmic, Shelby or Positraction (to name a few) rims will lessen the weight by up to 3 pounds a wheel and spread the tire to road surface by almost 50 percent.  Less weight, same tire as the factory suggested and more tire on the road was a clear + up.  In fact, there were dealerships that offered the after market Positraction rim as an option and the car retained its factory warranty.  And the
    Oh yea, the Cadi no longer has the rattle, and that wine in the passenger seat is not as much.
