And, if you have the gauge out, pop off the lens, and paint the pointer/hand on the dial.  Really simple to do.  Tape off the center (cut as necessary) use a sheet of paper (cut to the center) and put it under the pointer.  I like the florescent or hot orange in the model spray can.  These small can's hold just enough to do the job and now your dials look like new.

i believe my dash lights are all working fine. but it is really hard to read the dash info at night with the dash lights on?
is that normal? should i try changing the bulbs?

A longtime Honda mechanic told me the early civic bulbs fit, and were a higher wattage ( = more heat, could be dangerous).  Or go the LED route www.superbrightleds.com .  YMMV

It is that simple.
How many have the glue marks coming through the head liner in their car?  Honda used a glue to put the foam rubber on the back side of the head liner and over time it shown through as an ugly gray marks on the head liner.
Simple fix - remove the head liner and hang it on a line in your garage.  Pick up a can or two of SEM Phantom white vinyl spray paint and a bottle of vinyl prep.  Clean the head liner with light soap and water, dry completely.  If necessary remove the deteriorated foam rubber from the back side of the headliner, glue more if needed.   With a clean rag follow the instructions for the SEM Vinyl prep and clean the head liner again (caution - watch that you don't touch the head liner after it is clean.  Then give it a couple of coats of SEM phantom white and you will have a brand new looking head liner.  Reinstall and your ready to go.

The dash lights are not that bright from the factory.
The bulbs do get darker as they burn after hours of use.
Some of mine were almost black and still worked.
Pull the fuel gauge it's the easiest to remove and see what the bulb looks like.
One other thing to consider, not sure how old you are. I am 51 and everything is not as bright and blurry!
Just like our classic Honda's.
