backfiring into carb

Post by eric.geiger »

after sitting for 30 years my car is slowly coming back to life.
Mark @ MPH has put in many hours of work and has managed to clear the obstruction in the fuel lines, un seize my carburetor, re-tap the block to mount the cooling fan and re tap the cam housing to mount the carb. He has flushed the tank numerous times and installed 2 fuel filters to catch any left over gunk. The compression is good 150 to 160
he tried starting it today for the first time and it is back firing. He is hoping that it is just whoever tried to install new points on the car right before i purchased it put something together wrong.
the engine has fuel and spark just at the totally wrong time
Praying that the timing chain hasn't slipped or jumped at all. and since the compression is good we know the valves are not bent.
what do you think.
