I'm having problems with my car it's shorting out and draining the
battery. the battery is brand new. My charger automatically shuts off
when it is shoting so I can't charge it. I can only jump it. How can
I find out where the sort is I've tried the nagitive battery cable
thats not it. any suggestion? Thanks Robert

There are a few areas it could be, but my bet is it's under the wrapped
wiring harness by and under your battery. Pull the battery, and unwrap the
wires. Look for wires that appear melted together. Pull them apart and
replace the wire with the melted insulation. If all looks well, check the
connections from the engine to the Bridge Rectifier located under the
battery tray. Also it could be the ground to the Voltage regulator (black
wire on the plug) Sometimes these tend to get corroded and need to be
cleaned. Remember, often it's the visual check that will lead you to most
of the problems. Corroded attaching clips can and often do cause more
resistance to the electrical circuit which is Heat. And, to much heat will
melt insulation causing shorts and beaks in wires. Keeping this in mind do
your search.
I agree with Greg that if this seems hard then taking it to an auto
Electrical Shop is another way. Just remember they are going to go through
the same trouble shooting procedure as you are. Only your paying for their
time.

My battery would drain after a week of non-use, it was a buildup of carbon crud in the contact area of the starter solenoid. I removed the main fuse and it was still running down, so the problem was narrowed down to the only other thing on the battery cable, the starter. The repair was simply cleaning it out. Ken
